Book2Movie Club
This month the feature was Journey to the Center of the Earth, which we were able to catch in 3D over at Universal Citiwalk.
I though Parker would be able to sit through it but the man-eating Venus flytraps were just too much for the little guy so we had to leave the theater. But about 15 minutes later he was brave enough to venture back into the theater so we could finish the rest of the movie.
So I have to admit...I didn't make it through the original novel. There's definitely a different sense of timing. It takes them about a third of the book just to get to the volcano where they journey into the center of the earth. I couldn't help but get a bit impatient.
I did catch the 1959 movie with the boys (Chris, Parker, Thommy, and Geoffrey). It had Pat Boone so you know it would be a ''classic''. Plus, with that cast you know there would be a couple of songs to be sung by the crooner. The best part was either the rear projection ''giant lizards'' (which scared Parker) or the dolls that represented our heroes as they escaped. Then again, it could have been Pat Boone's Scottish accent. Like I said...''classic!''

Time to Feel Old
I heard this on NPR today. The Nevermind baby is not only no longer a baby. He's 17.
"Quite a few people in the world have seen my penis," he says from his home in Los Angeles.
Tell me about it. On t-shirts, posters, larger-than-life murals on Tower Records on Sunset...yeah, I think that's a tad more than a few.

What's in a name?
Published 9/6/2008
So, as I mentioned earlier, we have a girl's name left over from our first go around at this...''Piper''.
Did I mention how we came up with ''Parker'' and ''Piper''? You know that games...what's your drag name or what's your stripper name? Then you take the name of your first pet and the street you grew up on. Well, that's it. Chris grew up on Parker Street and I grew up on Piper Place. (Actually, the first place I lived at was Houser but I'm not naming my kid Houser...so I went with my second home.) I like to think of it as passing on a bit of one's childhood. Chris likes to stick to the originally stripper name origins.
Okay, so we have a girl's name but we now need a new boy's name. Surprisingly, we decided on a name pretty quickly. (Really, there was more drama naming the dog.) Parker's middle name -- Jonathan -- is based on my dad's name. So, this little one should have James for his middle name, after Chris' father. As for the first name...we settled on Jacob. He can always use the nickname Jake if he wants something less biblical and serious. And anyways...are all Jakes hot? :o)
So there you have it -- Jacob James Trillo.

Week 12
Published 9/6/2008
So, based on our initial scans, Dr. Tzeng is having us start seeing Dr. Samadi, the preinatal doc we saw for Parker's pregnancy. He'll take us through our genetic screenings and will also be handling the rest of our ultrasound scans. (The one bonus of having a baby after the age of 35 is that you get a ton of pictures as the doctors keep check on the baby's development.) So three weeks later, here's what's the baby looks like in 2D and 3D...The thing I like about Dr. Samadi, aside from the fact that he's a known factor, is that he's not afraid to call the baby's "buds" arms and legs.
According to the doc, the baby's healthy. Actually, he said he was "textbook" perfect. ROCK ON! Based on his measurements, he's 12 weeks and 4 days old.
And did you notice the pronoun? Yeah, we're looking at a boy. We had a girl's name left over from Parker's pregnancy so we have some homework to work on.

When North Meets South
My mom, sister, Foxy, and the girls came down from the Bay Area for a SoCal visit. With all these people in the house, we figured we'd better break out the tent for the kids to sleep in. It turned out to be a big hit. Maybe too big of a hit. There was no way those kids would fall asleep before the adults ran out of gas. In the end, we had to split them up...Luxi and Parker slept in the tent and Niko shared Ah-mah's bed. (Smart kid.)

Baby's First Scan
Published 9/6/2008Well, the Trillos -- Daddy, Mommy, and Big Brother -- headed over to the imaging place to get our first looks at the new baby.
I like how we'd ask stuff like -- "Are those the legs?" "Is that a hand?" and we'd get corrected...changing the mentioned appendage to I guess the more clinically correct term..."bud". Wouldn't want people to get their hope up too much, I guess.
Well, even though it's too early to know the sex of the baby, we do have a better sense of how hold the baby is -- 9.6 weeks -- and when we should expect to meet the baby in person -- January 26, 2008. (I know Geof's hoping the baby will come a day earlier so he'll have a twin to share his birthday...not to mention, another reason for Aimee to celebrate on Burn's Night.)

One Bump in the Road
Published 9/6/2008
So, I went to my first appointment with Dr. Tzeng, only to discover that he's retired from the baby delivery business. :o( Bummer! He'll see me for the first trimester but after that I'll need to transfer another doctor, Dr. Navi (who I believe was the back-up doc in case Dr. Tzeng wasn't available when it came time for Parker to be delivered).
Oh well, in the meantime, the baby seems to be doing fine. Dr. Tzeng is thinking that the baby may be due a little earlier than what my normal doc, Dr. Sheh, predicted. But he'll have me get a sonogram to a better reading on the baby.

Go Baby, Go!
Published 9/6/2008
So, our suspicions have been confirm. We're pregnant and looking to have our second child early next year...probably early February.
Now I just have to get in to see the OB-GYN who delivered Parker, Dr.Tzeng, and get us started on the string necessary appointments. At least this time, it's a bit more ''old hat'' with less questions in the air.

2008 Company Picnic
This year the company picnic was at a Trillo family favorite...Santa Anita. No horses were racing but there's was enough to keep us entertained in the infield, including bumper cars, jungle gyms, and pony rides. It could have used a bit more shade but there's was enough food to keep me content. :o)

Best Friends
So, within a few days, Dean finally realizes that he has nothing to fear in Frankie and the two become quick friends who enjoy wrestling and chasing each other around the house. And that's a good thing because Dean has too much teen kitty energy for me...especially around 3am. So anything Frankie can do to tire him out is greatly appreciated.

All Better Now
On a related note, you know what's the best way to get you in and out of a doctor's appointment with minimal wait -- both in the waiting room and in the exam room? Bring an hysterical kid. We were done with the appointment probably within 15-20 minutes of us walking into the doctor's office.

Day 3: No Love for Frankie
Who's a cutie pie?!
Yup, Dean's doing well as the newest member of the Trillo family. His current domain is the master bathroom which gives him plenty of place to roam, with out giving him a run of the house.Of course, that also means he's safe out of Frankie's reach. Sorry pup. You'll have to wait a little longer for Dean to gain more trust in you.

Love is NOT in the air
Day 2 and, unfortunately for Frankie, love is not in the air. Dean puffs up, not willing to trust the dog that sits on the other side of the gate.
Check out that tail. It's like three or four times it's normal size.Dean and Parker, on the other hand, have become fast friends. Each loving the other's high level of energy. Just watch out for those claws, Parker.
Seriously, how can Dean not trust this face?

Welcome Dean
Parker welcomes the newest member of our rat pack...Dean. Frankie, unfortunately has to wait as it's a bit too soon for dog-cat introductions.
When you can't find the cat...check the drawers. Some how Dean climbed up from the laundry hamper up into the cabinetry. Looks like I need to clear out this drawer.

Vegas Day 2
What would Vegas be without Liberace?!
Seriously, if you go to Vegas, the Liberace Museum is a must and I mean that. It's the second time I've been there and I love that Liberace was so entertaining in so many ways.

Viva Las Vegas!
The Trillos are on the road again, heading for Vegas. Cher's in concert and we're taking Chris' mom to see her. While were in town, we're also going to meet up with Thommy and Geoffrey...who are in town to see Cher, of course.
We're staying at the Flamingo and it looks like the place has had a bit of a face lift since our last visit. Talk about Barbie's Dreamhouse. Lots of pink, brown, and orange. It actually reminds me of a diner I visited with my dad in the 70's...I think it was House of Pies. Mmmmm. Delicious!

Book2Movie Club
So a decade ago...gasp! Yes it's been that long...I did this thing called Movie Nite where I arranged for a group of friends to get together and watch a flick once a week. Over time I became the Movie Nite Dictator because, well, dictatorships just run more efficiently. (Actually, I got stuck with one too many movies that other people wanted to watch but didn't show up to view. I think that's how Hitler also got his start.)
Soon after Movie Nite ended, I joined a book club, which allowed me to take advantage of my commute time (as I was taking the train to work then) and read a bunch of books that I normally would not have read. Sad to say, the book club ''went on a break'', which I quickly translated to "went kaputz.''
A few more years have passed and I'm feeling it's time to try to bring the bands back together. Yes, that's ''bands'' plural. My thought was to create a ''Book2Movie'' Club. Once a month (which I figured would be easier than Movie Nite's weekly commitment) on a weekend (once again, figured a non-school night would be easier on all involved) we'd get together to watch a pre-determined movie.
''Pre-determined?'' you asked. Well, that's where the book part comes into play. The thought is read the book (or script if that's the case) of the movie chosen. Watch the movie. Then have lunch to discuss how the book was translated to film and (for those who didn't read the book) how the movie stands on its own.
That said, here's my suggestion for the first Book2Movie Club selection...Wanted which opens June 27th and is based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. It also stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and, yes, Angelina Jolie. So, for those of you who are not quite sure about the ''book'' aspect of this venture...have no fear, things won't be too heady right off the bat.
Here are the rest of the details:
- Date: Saturday, June 28
Time: TBD -- early show, to be following by lunch
Location: Sherman Oaks ArcLight (it's opening weekend, we're going to need the reserved seating)
Well, let me know if you're interested in participating. I'll update you all again as we get closer to having actual showtimes.
I hope to see you at the Book2Movie Club.
