Dinner with Oscar

Dinner With OscarDinner With OscarDinner With OscarDinner With OscarDinner With Oscar
So in honor of the Oscars, we headed over to Thommy and Geoffrey's house and feasted on items inspired by the 5 movies nominated for best picture.

We started by snacking on chocolate -- Cadbury (Frost/Nixon), Ghirardelli (Milk), and Scharffen Berger (The Reader) -- as we got dinner ready. We then started with samosas (Slumdog Millionaire). We then followed that with some delicious gumbo (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) that Geof made from scratch.

After a break where we watched a bit of the Oscar ceremony, we then had bratwurst and sauerkraut (The Reader).

More of the Oscar telecast and then we had dessert -- Watergate cake (Frost/Nixon), which was again made by Geof from scratch, and ice cream and rainbow sherbet (Milk).

Looking back on it all, it was a whole lot of food but fun nonetheless. It'll be interesting to see what we come up with next year.

So, for my birthday we headed over to Chevys for a fiesta filled with friends, food, and fun. YUM!

To all those who attended -- Matt, BC, Maria, Geoffrey, Thommy, Parker, Aimee, Jan, Eric, Fred, & Kitty -- thanks for coming and making my birthday extra special. You only turn 38 once and I'm glad you were able to share in the experience. Too bad no sombreros were involved. But the event did come with a mariachis!

Kwik E Mart Stop

Kwik E Mart Kwik E MartThe Simpsons invade Burbank!

With the release of The Simpsons Movie, several 7-11s were converted to Kwik E Marts, including one close to work. My co-worker Larry was so excited that he swept Marge off her feet and gave her a quick kiss.

Kwik E Mart Kwik E MartWe had to wait in line to get in, which, unforturnatly, built up expectations. Once inside you were directed down the aisle of merchandise but aside from that there wasn't much in the line of Simpsonizing. You could buy Buzz cola (I got a couple a cans), a Squishee (yes, I got one...I was thirsty), and very Homer-style donuts (I got a dozen. Hey! A girl's got to eat.) but that was about it. There wasn't even any Duff Beer...go figure. Oh well. Despite the down points, I'm glad we went.

Thanksgiving

ThanksgivingSo this Thanksgiving, the Trillo's (and my Mom and Marina) converged at our place. Unfortunately, Amy, Josephine, and Carly couldn't make it. But Jasmine was there to entertain Parker. Once again, Chris deep fried the turkey. DELICIOUS! Luckily, it wasn't super cold this year so it didn't take forever for the oil to heat up.

GobbleGobbleTrillos (plus one or two) gathered round the table -- Esther, Gerry, Marina, Dana, Eric, Ken, Jan, Chris, Jim, and Catherine. (Mom, don't fall asleep!) The lone plate belongs to Jamie, who avoided the picture by taking it herself. (Parker and I escaped the shots by sitting too close to the picture taker.)

ThanksgivingThanksgivingGrandpa plays catch with Parker. Then Jasmine joins in the fun with a little swashbuckling action. Hey! That's two against one. No fair.

ThanksgivingHere our little guy with his first bite of rice krispy treat. Obviously…he loves it!

Ice Cream is Good

Ice Cream is Good
Ice Cream is Good,
originally uploaded by Car2nGrl.
I've had to come to terms that I've given birth to a picky eater. Maybe "picky" is not the right word. "Unadventurous" (aka "BORING") is probably the better label. He's not one to try new things. (On the bright side, he doesn't put a lot of foreign objects in his mouth.) He's not a big fan of meat. (I think we may have the next incarnate of the Dalai Lama on our hands.)

So, when we went to Ben & Jerry's while Chris was getting a haircut, I wasn't surprised when Parker refused to taste my ice cream. This time, I had to prove to the little one that Mommy's was right and baby was wrong...Ice cream is good. Parker's head bobbed left to right. Mommy's cone moved in and out. Then...BAM! Bulleye! Mommy's cone connected with baby's mouth.

Ice Cream is GoodAnd...yes, baby had to agree. Mommy was right. Ice cream is good.
