When I picked up Parker yesterday from daycare he was throwing up. I guess he picked up a little bug that made the trip home a bit challenging. In the end, that night ran three (small) loads of laundry -- soiled cloths from daycare, the carseat cover, the blanket that I (luckily) used to cover much of my backseat, and a set of sheets. Today, Parker seems to be better. Everything's staying down. But he hasn't had much of an appetite. I'm hoping things will be back to normal tomorrow.

Okay, I have to admit. I find pure joy in dressing Parker and Chris alike. (Thanks for the shirt Geoffrey!)

Notice Parker shooting himself in the face with the water gun? Now you may think, what a lucky shot. However, the thing is, Parker kept shooting himself in the face over and over again. Actually, I don't think he ever figured out how to turn the gun around to shoot others. Oh well. I guess I should be a bit worried but really, it's just too funny.

Daycare Anecdote

"Parker and Tyler had fun this morning. They were playing peek-a-boo. Parker was standing on one side of the cabinet and Tyler on the other side. They would bend down to try to hide, jump up, and say "Peek-a-boo!" It was darling."

War on Terror-ible Diseases

So Bush finally made the first veto of his presidency and that was on a bill for stem cell research -- allowing unused embryos to be used for research rather than be destroyed -- cementing his legacy as a complete idiot.

I love John Stewart's juxtaposition of how Bush "doesn't want human life destroyed" ("every being counts, every being matters") and yet is willing to kill tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens. For some reason, beings with actual thought are somehow less valuable than a handful of cells. Bush feels that it would be better to have these embryos adopted...as if there's a shortage of children in the world that need to be adopted. Once again, beings with cognitive thought are of less value.

It makes me sad and embarrassed to be an American.

So it's one of Parker's favorite times of the day -- bathtime. I get him down to his birthday suit and am about to lift him into the tub when he decides he wants to put his shoes on.

Okay.

So I help him get the shoes on and then he tries to hop in the tub.

Uh, no. It doesn't work that way.

Parker become upset when I try to take off his shoes and decides to work out his emotions by going for a run out of the bathroom and round the living room.

Hello! I had to get my camera. Look at that cute tush!

Eventually, I corraled him back into the bathroom and reluctantly he removed his shoes and took a (shorter than usual) bath...to humor Mommy, I guess.

Gnarls Barkley

Jen, I hope you can still read this with the video link. I think the glitch was just with the Rever clip, not YouTube. But let me know if that's not the case...then again, if you can't read this then I guess you won't know to let me know. DOH!

Okay, I first saw Gnarles Barkely at the MTV Movie Awards and absolutely fell in love with them. How could I not with Chewie on the drums.

But I thought they might just be a one-hit fling for me. And this I saw their video for Smiley Faces. There's two versions, this one and another one with Dennis Hopper and Dean Stockwell. But I think the one with the emoticons is the best...raunchy, but funny.

I guess I'll need to add this to my shopping list for my next trip to Target.

And from the pair that he does leave out, Parker loves to remove his orthodics (shoe inserts) and put them in his mouth. Hmmm, maybe I should be more worried about that. (Foot Mouth disease, anyone?)

Thommy and Geoffrey came over and we test drove Parker's new pool float. I had taken him in the pool about a couple of weeks ago when Kristen, Kelly, and Betsy came over and he LOVED IT. So much so that he kept wanting to go deeper and deeper SOLO even though he doesn't know how to swim. Cool and yet scary. I couldn't get rid of the awful thought in the back of my head -- what if he slipped out of my hands?

Well, I got this pool float from Target (and was that hard to find...it's July and can you believe they've already cleared out their summer seasonal stuff...I guess to get ready for Xmas. I wouldn't be surprised.) I'm holding it down but the float also has a canopy which keeps my little guy in the shade while we float around.

Parker loved all of it but you notice how he leaning forward, trying to climb out...that crazy baby! He knows no limits. (I call that the Trillo in him. I'll do my best to keep that reined in.) He especially loved it when Geof and Thommy would blow bubbles in the water -- laughing and giggling, he even went so far as to try to do it himself. And that got him started on drinking the pool water. Oh well, I guess if Frankie can do it, so can Parker.

So, is there ever a time when Frankie isn't thinking about fetch?

No.

And he assume's everyone else is the same way. So when Parker takes a bath, Frankie will, at some point, bring a ball or toy that he needs to fetch...if someone would just throw it.

Parker? Are you listening?

Alas, he's not. So Frankie has to resort to the tracking the other items in the tub...just in case they happen to fly in the air, he needs to be ready to fetch.

But eventually, even that results in nothing and Frankie has to watch his hopes for fetch go down the drain with the bath water.

Heil Kitler!!

All right. I have to admit. This sight made me smile. Cats That Look Like Hitler!

Independence Day

Acton 4th of July Parade 2006
Well, this year we decided to take advantage of our local 4th of July Parade. Chris and I gathered Parker and Frankie and we headed over to Acton's main drag to check out the festivities.

Royal Court Lil' Miss Desert Storm
Of course my shot is late but here's a pic of the Acton Royal Court. Thommy & Geoffrey's neighbor was one of the princesses -- I think she was near the front of the float. It's weird. Where were a lot of "Royal Courts" in the parade from other towns. Not sure if that's because they don't have a parade of their own or if they make the rounds, hitting all the local parades. This latter picture is one of those roving courts. Not sure where they're from but they were dressed in camouflage. Maybe it's Little Miss Desert Storm.

Ahoy Acton! Vrrroooom!
Here are my two favorite parts of the parade. My favorite float -- not sure how it related to the theme ("Peace and Paradise") but it's funny -- and the Shriners in their tiny vehicles -- also funny, I think it's that special combination big/old guy, little car, and, of course, fez.

We returned home around noon and all of us took a well deserved nap. And fireworks? Sorry, we skipped out on the show because it's past Parker's bedtime; plus, I had to work on the 5th.

What's Up?

Well, no new pictures today but just an update on Parker. His vocabulary is growing.

  • Just about everyone is "Daddy" -- Chris, me, the dog -- but occasionally, he'll surprise me with a "Mommy"
  • Or is he just talking about his favorite cartoon mouse, "Maimy" -- translation, Maisy.
  • He does pretty well with "bye-bye" and will even blow you a kiss good-bye. Hello is another story.
And, even though he can't say it, there's definite understanding when we say things like
  • "Bath Time" -- His face brightens and he waddles over to the bathroom
  • "Story Time" -- His face brightens and he waddles over to the recliner in the bedroom where we read bedtime stories
  • "Cookie" -- His face brightens and he waddles over to you to grab a cookie out of the box of cookies
As you can guess, lots of things make Parker happy, which is a good thing.

I guess that's it for today's update. If you need something else to keep you busy, why don't you printout this. Nothing like a one-hit-wonder wordsearch to brighten one's day...Especially if you don't have your own waddling Parker.

Watch Out Ladies!

Ladies Man Here He Comes
We went to a wedding this weekend, which gave me an opportunity to dress Parker up in preppy clothes. We didn't last long in the church. We got to see the bride walk down the aisle and a cookie helped Parker get through the initial psalms. But, it soon became evident that Parker and I would be waiting outside for the ceremony to end. But that's fine. It gave us a chance to explore.

Tuba Duba Under Your Spell
The reception was an even larger space that gave Parker plenty of room to run around. However, the most captivating part of the evening was the zydeco band. Parker was absolutely mesmerized.

Okay, I'm sure many of you have heard about the explosive reaction between Mentos and Diet Coke. But this video takes it to a whole new level.

I love it!

If you want to know more about the science behind this effect, check out the creators' site.

There also seems to be an interesting debate brewing between YouTube and Revver springing from this video's popularity.

10 Commandments Bill Sponsor Only Knows Three

I love that the guy who wants to put the 10 Commandments in our schools and courtrooms can't recite all ten. Maybe they should just be displayed in his office, rather than everywhere else. Even cheaper, I can write one on each of his fingers with a Sharpie and they'll be with him where ever he is.

Bush Apologizes

Oops!
When we first saw this on the Daily Show, Chris and I couldn't tell for sure if it was for real or a joke -- Bush commenting about a reporter's sunglasses -- "You gonna ask your question with shades on?" -- unaware that the reporter's legally blind. But, I guess it's true.

Why am I not surprised.

Here's a copy of the transcript...

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, Peter. Are you going to ask that question with shades on?

REPORTER: I can take them off.

THE PRESIDENT: I’m interested in the shade look, seriously.

REPORTER: All right, I’ll keep it, then.

Not live one (that I can see) but stuffed ones, one on hats and shirts, and knick-knacks.

I guess this is just another example of country livin'.

Here's Parker, proudly wiggling the "I Voted" sticker on his finger. Within a couple minutes, the sticker became an indistinguishable, red, white, and blue ball.

Well, not sure what to make of this. Here's a series of photos that Parker took when he went in for his myringotomy. I guess, he was a bit upset so Chris let him play with his (camera)phone. I think the first one was taken on Chris' lap but after that not sure about the specific where or when's. I do know that when Parker went into the operation room (without Chris) he was really upset so Chris let him take the phone. Who know, one of these may have been taken during the procuedure. Werid, huh?

Lost

Okay, I'm finally up-to-date with all my Tivo'd episodes of Lost but checking out this map I've realized that I'm going to have to rewatch Season 1 and Season 2 all over again!

  • Jack is Claire's brother?!
  • Rose is Walt's grandmother?!
  • "Real" Henry is Rose's brother?!
  • "Fake" Henry is Aaron's grandfather?!
  • Bernard works for Hanso and "fake" Henry?!

Holy smokes! I feel like I must have been watching the show with my eyes closed.

The good thing, though, is that the show (both season!) is so awesome that I won't mind watching it again (and again, if necessary). I don't think I've enjoyed a show this much since...hmmm...well, I guess since X-files. Can't wait until Season 3.

Parker's appointment was at 7am. And he was out of there by about 9am. It was very quick and when I got home I found my little guy running around (pantless) without a care in the world. As you can see in the pic, of those that have been nibbled...only the tails remain. Odd. And it's not like he's looking at the fish face and then intentionally taking a bite of that cheesy, smiling face. He just seems to like to hold the fish by the tail...I guess. Unfortunately, the true reason behind this preference will never be known.

What does that mean? It means it can go on top of his head, of course! Looks like we're done with dinner.

Believe it or not, he gets totally excited and waddles to the reading chair in the master bedroom. There, under the covered light (so it won't be too bright and interfer with sleepy eyes), we read books as Parker chugs a bottle of milk.

Early favorites were Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar but, like many stuff, it's walked off somewhere. (Parker knows but he's not telling.) No worries...they have been replaced with new favorites -- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Dr. Seuss's ABC and Green Eggs and Ham.

I switched tubs because lately he's wanted to stand during his bath and this tub seems to be less slippery. Plus, eventually, Parker was bound to move out -- to his own bed and bath.

I guess the next thing I need to do is clear out what was "my office" so there will be space for Parker's crib.
